SMEs are the protagonists of a new Wiki-Med-project

The Fraunhofer Institute for fabricating technology and automation IPA in co-operation with several SMEs and the industrial organisation Spectaris e. V. have set up a project called »Wiki-Med« for knowledge management.

According to the project´s initiators, new national and international legislation compel in particular small and medium-sized entities (SMEs) in the medical sector to better exploit already existing knowledge and experience and to combine them with new knowledge as quick as possible. According to the scientists working on the project, this is possible only by an improved systematization of internal and external knowledge and refers in particularly to fields such as laboratory technique, diagnostic technique, but also to electric medicine, medical technology as well as information and communication technology. The starting point for the project will be existing solutions from other sectors.

The joint project »Wiki-Med«, apart from providing sector-specific solutions for a standardised knowledge and information structuring, also wants to offer an improved integration of knowledge management processes into companies´ operational work flow. Thus, the time spent on information procurement is to be reduced. The expenses incurred by a company for the training of staff will be decreased thanks to e-learning. By extending the application of service and customer knowledge the management of suppliers is to be optimised too. More information will be soon available on the project´s website which is currently still in a test phase. GERMAN
