Turnover in processing industry falling

In September 2008 turnover in the German processing industry fell by 2.0% in real terms as compared to September 2007. In August turnover was still up by +2.6%. Turnover generated within Germany fell by 1.1% while sales abroad decreased by 3.1% (in countries within the Eurozone by 3.2%, in the rest of the world by -3.0%). These figures are for the time being provisional.

Most turnover was still generated in mechanical engineering (+2.9%) and the food industry (+0.4%). In the field of radio and communication technology, however, turnover dropped by 9.2%.

As compared to August 2008, turnover generated by the German processing industry fell by 3.9% in September (following +4.4% in August). Turnover generated within Germany fell by 4.5% and that abroad by 3.2% (in Eurozone by 3.1%, in the rest of the world by 3.3%).

In the period from January to September 2008 cumulated turnover generated by the German processing industry increased by 2.4% as compared to the same period last year with turnover generated in Germany increasing by 2.3% and that abroad by 2.5%. GERMAN
