Prices in wholesale trade increased in October

Wholesale trade prices increased by 3.6% in October this year as compared to October 2007. Even though this is quite an increase, the price rise is significantly smaller than in August and September this year (+7.4% and +5.8% respectively). From September to October the wholesale trade price index fell by 1.5%. Wholesale trade prices for solid fuels and mineral oil products were up by 14.8% in October this year as compared to October 2007, but fell by 3.3% since September this year.

The price changes for ores, iron, steel, non-ferrous metals and semi-finished products thereof were +12.3% and -4.7% respectively.

Wholesale trade prices for fruit, vegetables and potatoes increased by 8.1% in October 2008 as compared to October 2007, but fell by 0.9% in comparison with September this year. Prices for coffee, tea, cocoa and spices changed by +0.7% and -3.7% respectively. With regard to milk, dairy products, eggs, cooking oil and edible fat the respective changes were -2.7% and -0.6%. Prices for cereals, seeds and fodder were by 31.5% and 11.0% cheaper. Prices for office devices and equipment changed by -9.1% and -0.2% respectively. GERMAN
