Fees of German consultants up by 3 percent

A survey carried out by the Association of German Consultants (BDU) among approximately 950 consultants revealed that daily fees received by consultants in Germany increased by on average 3% as compared to the year 2007. The survey also showed that only 10% of turnover by consultants is generated by remuneration components which are result-oriented. Clients, on the other hand, prefer to pay consultants on the basis of hours worked.

On average about 61% of the total amount of fees received by consultants is based on hours worked. Almost 30% of consultants´ turnover is generated through projects with fixed remuneration. Consulting projects which include bonus agreements account for about 10% of turnover. Purely result-based remuneration just plays an insignificant role in the remuneration of consultants in Germany.

The daily rates of consultants differ according to the size of the consulting company and experience of consultants. Thus, on average a consultant costs between 1100 and 1380 Euros depending on the size of the consulting firm. For the services of a senior consultant working for a rather small consulting firm generating up to 200,000 Euros of annual turnover the amount invoiced will be on average 1520 Euros and for a consultant working for a company generating more than 5 million Euros a year 2000 Euros. For the services of the boss of a consulting firm or a senior partner in a consulting project clients may have to pay up to 5,800 Euros. GERMAN
