Turnover generated by music downloads booming

More and more people are ready to pay money for good music on the internet in spite of cheap copies being available on the internet. Thus, turnover generated through music downloads will probably increase to 78 million Euros by the end of this year which is an increase by about 30% as compared to 2007. These estimates are based on a survey by the association for consumer research (GfKF) on behalf of the German Association for Information Management, Telecommunications and New Media (BITKOM).

With regard to the number of pieces downloaded BITKOM predict a plus as well. The number of downloads is probably going to increase to approximately 38 million songs and albums by the end of this year. This is 10% percent more than in 2007. In the period from January to June 2008 the number of songs and albums downloaded from the internet already reached 19 million.

By far not only the young generation is thrilled by songs from the internet. More than one half of all buyers (55%) in the first six months of 2008 were older than 29 years. Men do still use the digital music market more than women and account for sixty percent of all files downloaded. The current price for the download of a single song is on average 1.84 Euros. GERMAN
