Most important shipbuilding fair opening its doors in Hamburg

The German minister for economic affairs, Mr Michael Glos, today inaugurates SMM, the world’s most important shipbuilding fair in Hamburg. The organizers of this event this year welcome more than 1800 exhibitors from more than 50 countries. About 47,000 professional visitors, one third of these from abroad, are expected to visit the exhibition this year which will last until September 26th. The latest developments in the naval industry will be presented there.

Mrs Dagmar Wöhrl, undersecretary of state, will ceremonially open the exhibition tomorrow at 9:25 for visitors and make a tour around the fair ground. Afterwards there will be a workshop called “Environmental protection and innovation – opportunities for European shipbuilding”. Organizers of this workshop are the German ministry for economic affairs and technology as well as the European shipbuilding association (CESA) One participant in this workshop will be the Dutch minister for economic affairs, Mrs Maria van der Hoeven.
