0.2 percent more employees in Europe

In both the Eurozone and the EU27 employment grew by 0.2% in the second quarter this year as compared to the first quarter. This increased corresponds to 283,000 people in the Eurozone who found a new job and to 401,000 people in the EU27. However, the increase was smaller than in the first quarter when the growth in employment amounted to 0.3% in both regions.

Comparing these figures to those from the second quarter in 2007 employment grew by 1.2% in the Eurozone and by 1.3% in the EU27 with the respective figures for the first quarter being +1.6% and +1.5%. Eurostat estimates that there were in total 226.4 million employees in the EU27 in the second quarter this year, 146 million of which in the Eurozone.
