Turnover in the hotel and restaurant industry down by 2.0 percent

The hotel and restaurant industry in Germany generated 2.0% less turnover in June this year than in June 2007. As compared to May this year turnover fell by 1.9% in real figures and by 2.0% in nominal terms. Over the first six months of 2008 this industry generated a plus of 1.1% in nominal terms and 1.4% less in real terms as compared to the first half of 2007. This was reported by the Federal Statistical Office on Thursday.

Only cantines and caterers generated more turnover both in nominal and real terms in June as compared to June last year (nominal: +5.2%, real: +2.6%). The respective figures in the hotel industry were +0.8% and -0.6%. For the restaurant industry the respective changes were -1.6% and -3.9%. GERMAN
