Exports up by 14 percent in April

According to the Federal Statistical Office, German exports increased significantly in April. The volume of exported goods increased by 13.9% to 89.8 billion Euros in the period between April 2007 and April 2008. Imports grew by 11.7% and reached 71.0 billion Euros.

As compared with March 2008 imports increased by 1.2% after adjustments for calendar and season while exports decreased by 2.1% in April this year.

The foreign trade balance closed with a surplus of 18.7 billion Euros in April 2008 while the surplus had been 15.2 billion Euros in April 2007. Taking into account adjustments for calendar and season, the German economy generated a foreign trade balance surplus of 17.7 billion Euros in April 2008. GERMAN
