Turnover in hotel and restaurant industry up by 2.7 percent in February

According to the Federal Statistical Office, the German hotel and restaurant industry generated 5.3% and 2.7% in nominal and real terms respectively in February 2008 as compared to February 2007. In comparison with January turnover increased by 1.4% and 1.5% respectively after adjustments for calendar and season. January and February combined the increase in turnover was 3.9% and 1.2% respectively.

All three major sectors of the hotel and restaurant industry increased their turnover in February as compared to February 2007 both in real and nominal terms: canteens and caterers which also include the suppliers to airlines increased turnover by 7.9% and 5.1% respectively, the hotel industry by 7.6% and 4.9% respectively while the restaurant industry generated 3.1% and 0.7% more sales.
