New record surplus for German foreign trade

German exports surpassed imports to Germany by 25.4% on a value basis and led to a surplus of 196.5 billion Euros. Thus, Germany’s foreign trade surplus hit a new record high in the year 2007. These figures, however, are still provisional ones published by the Federal Statistical Office.

The most significant surpluses Germany generated in the foreign trade with France (+28.9 billion Euros), the United States (+27.7 billion Euros), Great Britain (+27.6 billion Euros) and Spain (+27.0 billion Euros).

Significant trade deficits, on the other hand, were registered with regard to China (-24.7 billion Euros), Ireland (-11.5 billion Euros), Japan (-11.0 billion Euros) and Norway (-10.1 billion Euros). GERMAN
