Majority of Christian democrats want minimum wages

An overwhelming majority of Germans is for the introduction of statutory minimum wages. In a survey 71% of respondents said that they were in favour of them. Just 25% are against. Even 59% of voters for the Christian democrats advocated statutory minimum wages. At least these are the findings which were discovered by the forsa polling firm on behalf of the stern magazine.

The opinions of the advocators of minimum wages are shared as to whether there should be one general minimum wage applying to everybody or several ones for each line of industry. 49% are in favour of one general minimum wage. The other 50% would like minimum wages to be determined by each professional group according to its economic situation.

In the course of this representative study 1002 German citizens were interviewed in December 2007. GERMAN
