The Waldkircher Orgelbau Jäger & Brommer company is the first handicraft company which is awarded the German foreign trade prize. This prize is conferred upon small and medium-sized entities (SMEs) which distinguish themselves through particularly successful international business activities. This year the prize competition was also open to handicraft and engineering services so that for the first time SMEs from all lines of business, i.e. trade, services, handicraft and industry, were able to take part in the competition.
This year´s winner is Jäger & Brommer which is a company with a long tradition employing 18 people. Since 1988 it has been producing barrel organs, church organs and concert organs. A second activity of this company is the restoration and maintenance of musical instruments. They plan and tailor-made instruments according to the preferences of their clients. Particularly fine master pieces combining sound and art, such as an organ made of glass, are created through the combination of traditional handicraft know-how and modern production processes.
In 1996 the prize winner started business on the Japanese market. In the meantime the company has established branch offices in Japan, Korea and China. The export share in total annual turnover has increased to more than 50%. The company also plans to enter the US and South-African markets.
