Working abroad fascinates the young generation

More than half (56%) of young Europeans prefer applying for a job abroad, if there is the possibility to do so. This is the finding of a study which looked into the issues job seekers aged between 16 and 25 years attach importance to.

The study in question was commissioned by McDonald’s Europe and is based on surveys conducted among young people in seven European countries who were asked about their opinion on issues such as working and travelling. The study also investigated the three most important reasons which inspire job-seekers to look abroad:

  • Getting to know another culture and other people (26 %)
  • Looking for new challenging tasks (21 %)
  • Learning a foreign language/improving existing language skills (17 %)

These surveys which were conducted by the Populus polling firm among 800 young people aged between 16 and 25 years in Great Britain, Sweden, Spain, Poland, Italy, Germany and France revealed that Italians and Poles are most eager on travelling abroad (62% and 72% respectively) while Spaniards (44%) are most likely to stay at home.

The findings of the study were presented on the occasion of the first anniversary of a qualification initiative launched by McDonald’s. The McPassport is a certificate of skills and experiences gained by people who spent some time working with McDonald’s. This certificate contains information on all previous employment relationsships and is recognised by all McDonald’s restaurants within the EU. GERMAN
