Turnover in wholesale trade down by 1.8%

According to preliminary findings by the Federal Statistical Office, in May 2007 the turnover of German wholesale trade companies was down by 0.8% and 1.8% in nominal and real terms respectively as compared to May 2006. Compared to April 2007 the figure fell by 0.3% and 0.1% respectively.

In three of the six wholesale trade sectors turnover in May this year was higher both in nominal and real terms than in May 2006. The biggest turnover plus was registered in wholesale trade in machinery, equipment and accessories which increased by 13.1% in real terms (+6.2% in nominal terms).

In the other three wholesale trade sectors both nominal and real turnover values were below those of last year. The biggest decrease in real terms was registered in wholesale trade in agricultural raw materials and livestock which fell by 14.4% (-2.7% in nominal terms).

In the period from January to May 2007 turnover in the wholesale trade business was up by 3.5% and 1.6% in nominal and real terms respectively as compared to the same period in 2006. GERMAN
