Manipulated text documents fake themselves

Computer experts from Saarbrücken warn against a new digital threat: manipulated text documents may not only delete other files, but also display themselves differently according to the type of computer they are on. Thus, swindlers may subsequently manipulate contracts and terms and conditions, warn the computer scientists from the Saar University.

In the opinion of researchers from the department for information security and cryptography at the Saar university, in principle these manipulations are also possible with regard to the widely used PDF documents. These computer experts are going to present their findings at the CeBIT at their university’s exhibition stand (hall 9, stand B 65) as well as in the Future Talk.

Shortly after the CeBIT the research team of Prof. Dr. Michael Backes from the Saar university is going to present their research finding on the occasion of the biggest international conference on security issues, the “IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy” taking place in Oakland (USA) in May 2007.
